What is the airport pickup & temporary home-stay program?
- Pickup from Albuquerque International “SunPort” (ABQ)
- Stay for up to 3 nights with an American family
- Meals with the host family during the three-nights stay
- Transportation to and from UNM.
- This service is free.
Our desire is to make your first impression of the USA and Albuquerque a positive one. ISI, is a national Christian service organization made up of culturally sensitive American friends who are eager for cultural exchange. (International students of all religions and beliefs are welcome to participate.) As Christians we follow what the Bible says: “Remember to welcome strangers in your homes.” (Hebrews 13:2).
How do you sign-up?
- When your flight arrangements are assured, fill out the signup form below and email it to ISIABQ@aol.com
- Your request must be received THREE (3) or more DAYS before your arrival in Albuquerque.
- You should receive a response within 24 hours confirming your request.
- You will receive contact information for your “new American friend” by e-mail soon after your request is confirmed.
- We will not be able to help you upon arrival at Albuquerque International “SunPort” if you have not filled out and e-mailed the sign-up form below.
Arrival at your port-of-entry (first U.S. city you fly into):
It is possible, after you pass through U.S. customs, that you may miss your connecting flight. If this occurs, you must inform us of your flight schedule change as soon as you are given the new information. Please call your assigned host, or send us an email – ISIABQ@aol.com
Arrival at Albuquerque’s Airport:
- When you arrive at the Baggage Claim carousel, look for a person holding up a poster (sign) with your name on the poster. This will identify your new American friend.
- AFTER 20 minutes: If you still have not located your new American friend, use a public phone. This call will cost 50 cents.
- In some cases, your ISI American friend may be one of several people helping you during these first few days.
Your American family is looking forward to meeting you. They want to provide meals and a friendly atmosphere for you during your brief stay with them. Upon meeting you they will help you get your baggage and take you to their home.
